Simon Schubert

German artist Simon Schubert has a uniquely precise method of folding plain white paper that produces powerful images of architectural interiors. His process of positive and negative folding creates a relief of just a few millimeters, but the works have depth enough to catch highlights and shadows that powerfully activate their three-dimentsionality; the marks appear to jump from the page as if it was a piece of pressed tin. The images are hauntingly beautiful in their exploration of isolation, ephemerality, loss and disappearance.
