Leah Bailis
Leah Bailis' sculptures meticulously re-create mass-produced structures with fragile, temporal materials such as cardboard, Styrofoam, and craft wood. The restriction implied by the structures is made self-imposed by the fragility of the material, while the fastidiousness of its construction suggests a contained anxiety. This duplicity creates a tension as the clean, pared-down surfaces give an outward appearance of calm that crumbles upon closer inspection.
